چکیده

BackgroundLittle is known about changes in astigmatism during atropine treatment. We aimed to explore the effects of 0.01% eye drops on both spherical and cylindrical refractive errors myopic children.MethodsChildren aged 6–14 years with myopia ≥ −6.00 D < −0.50 D, total > −2.00 at least one were enrolled. Subjects randomised either receive once nightly single-vision lenses or simply wear followed up 3-month intervals. Cycloplegic refraction axial length measured. The magnitude direction (TA), corneal (CA), residual (RA) evaluated.ResultsOverall, 119 eyes (69 group 50 control group) included final analyses after 9 months. Atropine-treated showed significantly less progression than did (spherical equivalent: −0.35 ± 0.33 vs. −0.56 0.49 p = 0.001; length: 0.20 0.19 mm, 0.001). Compared (−0.04 0.23 D), a significant increase TA was observed atropine-treated (−0.14 0.29 D); this mainly attributed CA (−0.17 0.26 D) rather minor decrease RA (0.02 0.32 D).ConclusionsAtropine effective preventing progression, whereas months treatment resulted clinically small, but statistically Chinese children.

Multifocal electroretinogram in children on atropine treatment for myopia.

AIM To assess retinal function by multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) in children on atropine eye drops for the treatment of myopia. METHODS mfERGs were recorded in children receiving atropine eye drops (n = 48) once daily for 2 years and in those receiving placebo eye drops (n = 57) for a similar time. All recordings were performed between the second and third month of cessation of atropine...

Significance of Atropine in Preventing Myopia Progression in Children

School myopia is the most commonly encountered form of myopia. In its progression, the visual near and far point are drawn toward the eye as a result of the accommodation constriction and increased convergence tension. This leads to accommodation deficiency during near work, to binocularism, and to macropsia. In consequence, visual acuity is reduced, and the range of distinct vision is restrict...

Refractive Errors in 3–6 Year-Old Chinese Children: A Very Low Prevalence of Myopia?

PURPOSE To examine the prevalence of refractive errors in children aged 3-6 years in China. METHODS Children were recruited for a trial of a home-based amblyopia screening kit in Guangzhou preschools, during which cycloplegic refractions were measured in both eyes of 2480 children. Cycloplegic refraction (from 3 to 4 drops of 1% cyclopentolate to ensure abolition of the light reflex) was meas...

Five-Year Clinical Trial on Atropine for the Treatment of Myopia 2: Myopia Control with Atropine 0.01% Eyedrops.

PURPOSE To compare the safety and efficacy of different concentrations of atropine eyedrops in controlling myopia progression over 5 years. DESIGN Randomized, double-masked clinical trial. PARTICIPANTS A total of 400 children originally randomized to receive atropine 0.5%, 0.1%, or 0.01% once daily in both eyes in a 2:2:1 ratio. METHODS Children received atropine for 24 months (phase 1), ...
